Jamie Slater is a Charleston, SC native and holds a degree in music theory and composition with a concentration in Jazz guitar performance from the College of Charleston where he studied with internationally recognized composers Trevor Weston, Edward Hart, and ASCAP Award winning composer David Maves. Jamie studied classical guitar under Grammy award nominee Marc Regnier and Jazz guitar under Jazz guitar educator and author im Bastia.
Regina Ferguson was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She received a Bachelor in Fine Arts with a focus in Vocal Performance from The University of South Carolina. While attending USC she sang in the University Jazz Ensemble "Carolina Alive" and studied voice with renowned dramatic mezzo-soprano Janet Hopkins, a 16 year veteran of the New York Metropolitan Opera.
azz with Regina & Jamie grew out of the necessity for a jazz duo featuring a female vocalist in Charleston, but the duo is also available for booking as a quartet with stand-up bass and drums. Their unique project features live guitar and vocals with a fresh approach to your classic jazz standards. They frequently play private parties as well as Saturday nights at The Drawing Room in the beautiful Vendue Hotel in downtown Charleston .
Regina Ferguson is an old soul musician for a new generation. Born in Philadelphia, Ferguson developed her deeply-rooted love for singing at a very early age. Influenced by her love of jazz, acoustic guitar and piano she works diligently to shape her musical identity, capturing a sound that is sultry and rich, timeless and classic. In 2012 Regina received her Bachelor in Fine Arts with a focus in Vocal Performance from The University of South Carolina, where she studied with renowned dramatic mezzo-soprano Janet Hopkins, a 16-year veteran of the New York Metropolitan Opera. Ferguson has spent the past two years in Charleston, SC continuing her musical growth and developing her passion for music into a life-long career. Not only does she perform weekly as a solo artist she is involved with a variety of projects. Regina plays in an acoustic guitar duo with singer-songwriter John Shields of Long Miles, a jazz duo with jazz guitarist and composer Jamie Slater, and sings with Charleston Groove Factory, a local event band fronted by Charleston's "Best Male Vocalist," Ben Fagan. She also plays keyboard and sings with Fagan's original band the Holy City Hooligans, performing annually in Costa Rica and for local festivals and showcases, such as the First Flush Festival and the New Music Confab. She fronts her own event band, YoungSol Orchestra, available for booking through Other Brother Entertainment. Her original band has performed for local events such as Charleston Beer Garden Festival and Dig South. She is currently recording her debut album in Charleston, featuring a nine-piece band which is set to be released in June of 2016.
Jazz guitarist, composer, and educator Jamie Slater has been a fixture in the Charleston, SC Jazz scene for over 20 years. Jamie is a Charleston, SC native and holds a degree in music theory and composition with a concentration in Jazz guitar performance from the College of Charleston where Jamie studied with internationally recognized composers Trevor Weston, Edward Hart, and ASCAP Award winning composer David Maves. amie studied classical guitar under Grammy award nominee Marc Regnier and Jazz guitar under Jazz guitar educator and author im Bastia. Jamie has been a private instructor since 1988 and since 2001 has taught Jazz, Rock, Blues and Classical guitar in Mt. Pleasant SC. He currently teaches at state of the art teaching facility in Encore Musicin Mt. Pleasant, SC. He has had the privilege of performing countless musical engagements (including the Spoleto Festival) with such great South Carolina musicians as Kevin Hackler, Tommy Gill, John Cobb, Quentin Baxter and Charlton Singleton. His Jazz trio, the Jamie Slater Trio with with either John Cobb on baritine sax or Brett Belanger on upright bass and drummer Asa Holgate performs at High Cotton Maverick Bar and Grill in historic downtown, Charleston each Tuesday and Friday night . Jamie has composed music for a variety of ensembles but now mostly writes for the Jamie Slater Trio with Asa Holgate on drums and Brett Belanger on upright bass.
